New feature: Knowledge Base
Looking through the posts at GTVault, I have seen a lot of common questions asked and answered. I've implemented a Knowledge Base as a central area to house common tips/tricks, tuning guides, etc. There are currently very few items, but this will grow over time. Let me know if you have a good write up or guide that you would like to see posted.

Again, nice idea, Kerr. Are you going to get rid of the "Tuning Guide" section, now that Fumes' guide is in the "Knowledge Base"?

CWood - I decided to leave a dedicated link up so as not to confuse people who were used to seeing it.

That makes sense. Leaving it as-is will make the tuning guide more prominent, too, and thus useful to new/visiting people.

Gear trick
I think a good item for the knowledge base would be that someone explaines once and for all what exectly is the GT gear trick. You see explanations verly often in various posts.
I don't use it, so I don't know it but it seems to me a good item to be put up here.

Tranny Trick,....... How To and Why!
The "Tranny Trick" resets the transmission ratios closer together and provides much quicker shifting in the upper rpm ranges. Higher horsepower cars make use of tighter ratios by staying in the "sweet spot" of the horsepwer curve more than with stock ratios. Lower horsepower cars, or cars with more torque than horsepower, are best served with stock or wider ratios and do not benefit from the trans trick.
The "Tranny Trick" goes like this.
1st,........ Reset your transmission ratios by clicking on default setup for transmission tuning if you've messed with them.
2nd,....... Set the Final Drive to 5.500 or max. setting.
3rd,....... Run the Auto Set to 25, and then down to 1, and then leave it there.
Finally,..... Set your Final Drive for each track allowing for max. rpm, (or just before the rev limiter), in top gear at the end of the longest straight section.

Kerr...I have a suggestion..could we possibly have a forums based version or a sister site with forums for our members. I would love to host the site. It would get more people more active. They could showoff there setups and even post videos.(I have unlimited memory) I could host them. It would be great. I think most of the people here would enjoy forums. Please consider it. It would not only raise both of our sites traffic but considerably help everyone out.

therat1989 - Sorry, You know my stance on forums with gtvault. Too many out there already. Frankly, I'm not interested in more traffic. It just costs more money. Memory and bandwidth are two different things, and if you have a host that claims unlimited bandwidth you'll see weird things begin to happen when you really start taxing their pipe to the internet.

what if I offered to pay for the extra traffic? I'm not trying to brag or rub money in your face but my grandma pays for my site and she is a multi-millionaire. It would be of no problem. If you still don't agree then thats cool too.I just want to help the site grow even larger.

Saving the game during the 24 hour endurance race
Post #15 - Posted 11/13/2005 6:44 PM
I've just started the 24 hour race and know that it is in real time, I don't expect that I have to sit and play for the 24 hours straight, how do I save the game and restart it later? Or is this a stupid question. Apart from pauisng the game and leaving the PS2 running for a week.
Thanks for any help

Just speaking for myself I have a few great replays. I like to setup my personal cars in the game with equal HP to the competitors and in most cases I use normal tires. It makes for some white knuckle racing each time I race. And at the beginnning of each race I am not sure of the win. It make's some just win or lose at the line great replays. Every car I have in my garage has this kind of seup for each event. I was even at one point going to post some of these setups with explanations for each event. I also have some cool car pictures form the game.

Post em, not all of us are interested in fast laping or flogging only, competitive racing is what it's all about.
I've posted some of mine with little response though

I've posted some of mine with little response though I not sure Kerr is interested in these kinds of posts. But I have started what I call "Veridical GT-4". A form of racing to where I ask GTVault tuners to detune their setups HP, handling, tires and adding weight making their cars equal to GT-4 AI opponents cars. And then post their results in Veridical GT-4 for other racers to enjoy. I so far have posted 2 such setups in therat1989's http://www.socom-3.net You can see the details there under a topic I started "Veridical GT-4" Your exactly right "competitive racing is what it's all about."
For others NOTE: Use your own setups you posted with GTVault to detune. IF YOU USE ANOTHER PERSONS SETUP GIVE THE NAME AND CREDIT TO THAT TUNER AND GTVault.

Vimana - You can post a setup on GTVault for any purpose you see fit. That's why I set up the notes section so one can explain in detail the purpose of their setup. I looked at your posts on the socom site, and it looks like you want a sort of race competition with the ability to use any "detuned" setup. There really isn't an ideal vehicle for posting competition race times, etc. anywhere on the web. I'd thought about programming something of the sort with GTVault. Unfortunately, there is very little demand in comparison with the effort required to program something like this. That said, if you're linking back to your setups here you could create direct links for the readers of your posts instead of instructing them to search for your name, etc.
Hmm, I could be wrong but sounds like another ploy by therat1989 to get traffic to his site -- he's never been shy about this. First the forum offer and now this?

Fisrt of all I mean no disrespect to you or GTVault. GTVault is #1 bar none. And therat1989 has has no responsibilty for the actions I made. This was completely my idea and I will take all the responsability. He just gave me a part of a forum to try my ideas. I went back and edited my 2nd post to clarify my plan. Kerr you tell me what actions I should take about my idea, and I will go by your every word. But this was my plan and vision of a form of racing.
