2006 Kansas City Auto Show
Heh - I originally posted "2005" in the subject - I'm an idiot!

After going to Chicago's auto show last year, I knew I was in for a disappointment at this year's KC show. I could count the non-production models on one hand... easily. Nevertheless, I took some pictures.

Evo MR vs. WRX STi... which do you like?

How about the Pontiac Solstice vs. the Saturn Sky? I know, same car, but actually I like the Saturn version a bit better. If for nothing else, the simple fact that they now have a decent car in their lineup.

The Camaro concept was definitely the highlight of the show.

The new Z06 was pretty cool too.

The XLR-V is way too expensive, but still a badass car.

Dodge's only concept, the Razor.

Acura RSX-S

The Lexus SC430 finally gets less crappy rims. They're still not all that good.

This is supposedly a fast Hyundai Tiburon.

Roush Mustang

Infiniti M45

VW's new GTI

The BMW M5 looks awesome in black.

BMW M3 - can't wait for the new one.

Jaguar's new XK - not much changed from the concept I saw last year in Chicago, so basically it still looks like a (watered down) Aston Martin to me. Not a bad thing necessarily.

Porsche 911 Carrera

Porsche Cayman S - I love this car.

MB SLK55 AMG

A pimp 300C

Nissan 350Z Roadster

Honda S2000 - needs a redesign

Ford GT

Shelby GR1 - I saw this in Chicago last year, but they had these blue lights shining down on it. It looks much better in natural (err, flourescent) light.

GT500!

You'll notice the general absence of people at the show. It gets a lot busier. If you're a picture taker going to an auto show, I suggest going on a Sunday at opening time before the church crowd piles in and trashes all the cars.

Love that Roush Stang & the M5. Agree with you on the Honda S2000, over due for a change.
If you dont like the way I drive. Stay off the sidewalk.

Can't wait til the Camaro comes out... makes me feel all jittery thinkin about it Smile Overall the rest doesn't look too bad... btw, on that tiburon, was that front bumper fin (possibly a spoiler of some sort?) held on with a bungie cord? To be honest, after going through this area and seeing what people do to their cars, it wouldn't surprise me. Even if it isn't, I personally think its ugly anyway.

that thing is called a splitter. it's not held on by a bungie cord. I think those are short pieces of steel cable. I'm not totally sure what the purpose of the splitter IS, but I'm going to assume it's for aerodynamic purposes.

The Jag is finally taking on the Ford looks, IMO. thumbs-down to that.

As for the rest of the cars... Eek Thumbs Up

not to sound like an ass or anything but upon further inspection of these pictures, isn't it kind of funny that in some of the pictures the people look at the cars with joy (the STi and the SC430 for example) or absolute awe (the Camaro concept, the Shelby GR-1) but you look at the faces of the people at the tiburon and it seems they are very displeased about it... almost to the point of disgust. Thats just what it looks like to me.

Heh, I took the damn pictures and didn't even notice that. I was just happy to get in there before the throngs of people descended on the place. Upon closer inspection, you may be right. I will say though that import tuners are a rare breed in this area to start with. Lots more muscle car freaks who don't care for the import scene at all.

Some great pictures there Kerr, the Roush Mustang looks gorgeous Smokin Your right about the Jag though, very cheap mans Aston, but it will sell so keeps the company going, the shelby is to die for, when me numbers come up,its the first thing on the shopping list, along with a camaro, which hopefully will get built if they have any sense.the rods on the tyburon on the splitter are to stop it flexing at high speed and they are threaded to provide some adjustment regards airflow,it would look better in yellow and carbon Wink I want a GT500 very badly Crybaby

Hey Kerr, thanks for posting pics of the show for all us poor schlubbs who couldn't go. You're a real Humanetarian.

If a vegetarian eats only vegetables, then what does a humanitarian eat? Eek You're gross Kerr!!! How could you?!?! LOL Big Grin

Anyway, I noticed that you don't have Volvo in your Auto Links down there. (my favorite) Heres the site www.volvocars.us Check out the new C70 Coupe/Convertable. It kicks ass.

nik_bear - Yah I liked the Roush. The Jag concept in Chicago was much nicer, then again it was a one-off. I wasn't as impressed with the GT500 in person as I thought I would be. Still a monster of a car though. The Camaro was a lot of fun.

Chief - I thought the term for that was cannibal?! Thanks for pointing out the lack of a Volvo link. I did take a pic of the C70, but didn't think anyone here would care. I'll see about adding it.

bigracer - You may not want to hear this, but -- At best I'm looking at being a few months away from spending any real time on it. I estimate it would take me around a quarter (3 months) do to things right. At worst, I won't be able to do it, simply do to pressures IRL.

Sorry I can't be more committal right now. I tend to work a lot more on my websites in the winter.

Since I haven't been able to figure how to start a new topic, (if even possible), I though I'd put this here for Kerr to move as necessary.
I just found a video of a Radical SR8 streetlegal, (where????), production car taking a lap at Nurburging Nordschleife, with a time of 6:55:00!
What really impressed me though, was how prefectly the guys at Sony captured the track. Any differences were in the off-track scenery. The track it self is perfectly, and I do stress, perfectly captued by Sony. Those boys should be proud of themselves.
Anyway, here's the link. Check it out for yourself.

The pimp 300 is a wannabe pimp. I got my wife a PIMP 300! Black, limo tint, HD starlet 22's, grill, exhaust. The only thing I,... Big Grin .... I mean, The only thing she plans to do now is smoke the tail lights. She could do more but more is not always better.
I'll try being nicer if you try being smarter.

That Shelby looks pretty tight. Much better look at it than with all those blue lights. Pity those polished finishes are never an option in production.

Dodge brought back the Razor concept? Talk about a blast from the past, I saw that at the NY auto show back in 2002, when the Crossfire and Solstice were concepts as well.

Ha - I knew I'd seen that Razor before!

Re: the last iteration of Camaro/Firebird. I thought they quit making them because they didn't sell worth a crap. The numbers speak for themselves:
