Playing Wii Sports != working out
I'm not a huge Nintendo fan. I had the original NES and that was the last Nintendo system I personally owned. But anyway, I keep hearing that playing Wii Sports is like working out but have always found that to be a bit on the optimistic side. I came across this post over at ArsTechnica that basically backs up what I was thinking. Now games like DDR or the small amount of dedicated workout titles are a different story, but it doesn't appear you're going to get in shape playing a round of bowling or a set of tennis in front of your TV.

GT4 champ series???
Hey gang...
I've been messin' with gt4 on and off for little while I guess and recently just tried to get thru it. I really liked gt3 and couldn't wait to get my hands on 4..? Not a real big fan... So anyway, I take off right, Get to the gt champ series ridin' the minolta toyota. The car has been really the best car I've encountered myself. So here I go, I don't know what is going on for sure and I hate to bug everybody but, I can't stand it anymore! I don't know if my copy is possesed or what the heck..? I run thru Tokyo and El cap in Aspec, run all the rest in Bspec, especially H.K. that's got to be the most rediculous track I've ever run through..? The best I can get there is 4th, The other Toy and Nissans kill thru it. To make a long, crap story short I would be crankin' thru and wham... I get blasted by the, "bannana", or the AMG Mercedes..? They are 3rd and 5th on the grid and if you can't blast past them way early in the race you end up doing multiple 360's and/or out with the alligators..? One way or another they will kill ya'... I've watched replay after replay of these rides either swipin' the rear end out or completely spinnin' ya' out and pinnin' ya' to the wall!On occasion I've been up by 14 and out of no where a Nissan will rear end me at a corner or somethin'..? Is this normal or do I have a real bastardized copy..? My setup is based on Fumes', (Not pluggin' anyone), except a little hotter brake. I run pretty hard into a corner.I'd like to move on into the extremes ya' know... Hey thanks for your time and any and all help/advice is greatly appreciated.
Merry Christmas!!!
P.S.> Also, onetime I was runnin' in the NY race and up by 34 at lap 9 and rear pure yellow... I pitted, so I thought just for rears no fuel and kept my fronts. This thing kicked me out twice before finally allowing me to get fresh rears and graciously handing me the fourth and killing me in points..?

LOL
Well, I guess it depends on how OLD you are Wink
Funny thing is, my neighbor, who's mid 40's, got his son a Wii early this year. Fast-Forward, he had to go to the doctor as he was having a lot of pain, and had no idea what was troubling him. Turns out, he was pulling muscles while playing Wii SPorts Tennis. Hes from Lebanon, and had never played a video game before. He said he was "really going at it, every nite"--tennis, that is.
Anyway, I just got my son a Wii this Christmas, and must say its a ton of fun. I got Guitar Hero(my wife wont stop playing that), Mario Galaxy, but, we've been playing the Sport game disc that comes with it. Bowling, and tennis are really cool, especially watching my 9 and 7 year olds playing tennis together and almost knocking each other out swining their Wimotes.

I hooked up the ethernet tonight, and purchased classics like SuperMetroid, Kid Icarus, and Super Mario 2--all of which Ive played on my NES a million times, especially Metroid/SuperMetroid. Cant wait til they go to sleep so I can play those! So much for my old NES cartridges.

Now, if only my copy of Prologue would arrive from Play-Asia, supposedly shipped the 13th. Grrrrrr

I've been playing Wii for about a month now at a friend's house. It is kinda cool for the fact that it seems to get more of our group involved playing games together. People who never participated before like girlfriends and 60 yr old parents are playing, but I don't think I'll be buying one anytime soon. The racing games I have played are OK, but I don't feel that the
driving even compares to my PS2. Others may have a different opinion on this, though. I usually prefer racing games myself, so I will be buying an 80 gig PS3. Just my 2 cents

I've also heard reports about injuries due to going from 0 to Wii Sports marathons. I guess it is like working out in that respect! My brother has it, and I agree it is a good time. Bowling is my favorite.

Guitar Hero = awesome. I picked up Rock Band when it came out and it's also one of those games that really hooks non-gamers. It's real cool seeing someone who doesn't play video games regularly get sucked into it as it reminds me of the feeling I had when I played Atari Pong for the first time.

Kid Icarus! -/ nuff said there.

Metalsmith - I've always felt that Nintendo was light on serious racing fare. I've always enjoyed the various iterations of Mario Kart and F-Zero, but they're definitely arcade as opposed to sims.

Speaking of retreads on old ideas, I though this was good.

The bowling is awesome but for total joy the tanks game on Wii Play wins hands down. There is something about blowing up targets that thrills me more then getting a strike. Big Grin Anyway other then that I don't really get into the Wii and considering I work out anyway I haven't noticed any improvements in my health. So I'll remain skeptical about the overall benefits.
