I-Link Racing Rocks!
Hey folks, I had 4 guys over to my place last Saturday for some I-Link Battle racing. It was the first time I'd I-Linked, and I have to say it was the most challenging and fun racing I've seen yet. You have to get used to the physics in Arcade mode (I play Sim mode all the time) but once you get past that it's a blast.

I meant to take some pics of the 5 PS2's we had set up and running but I totally forgot. Maybe next time. Anyway, if you haven't I-Linked yet - DO IT NOW!

A synonym would be "moving"

Hey Kerr! I just got this idea.... how about:

If someone types a link in a setup note or comment, it should automatically become a hyperlink so we don't have to copy'n'paste.

Speedfreak,

I've thought about that, but there have been some technical difficulties in getting it implemented. I will revisit it when time permits.

Thanks,
Kerr

When I-Linking you can only choose cars that are available in Arcade mode. You have to beat all the races in Arcade mode on Hard level to get all the cars & tracks. There are some pretty fun S-Class cars like all the JGTC cars and the 787B, Gt One, R390, Zonda Race car, etc.

When I I-Linked I we all used the same car every race. It made for some extremely tight finishes. I remember a couple races when all 5 cars finished within 2 seconds of each other. That would never happen in any other scenario.

You have to use a IEEE1384 Firewire cable to I-Link. In the event you want to hook up more than two machines, you have to get a hub and 4-pin to 6-pin cables for each PS2 you want to connect. If you just want to hook up two PS2s directly, you don't need the hub but you need a (I believe) 4-pin to 4-pin cable. One of my buddies brought all the equipment over, so I'm not terribly familiar beyond what I just wrote. I'm sure there are some posts on it on GTF or other forums.

I had a race where everyone finished less than 1 second behind the leader(me):
Arcade
Normal
Test course
S Class: Corvette C5-R

On I-link, the closest race was 2nd place 38 seconds behind me... in Complex String

Yeah but IMO the test course doesn't count since if you all have the same car if you DON'T finish very close together there is a problem. Complex String is the logical opposite of the Test Course - how close are your I-Link races on tracks like Laguna Seca, SSR5, SSR11, Cote & Midfield?

Anyway, I get so bored with the AI these days I find myself going to Midfield and running F1 cars against a ghost I saved in the quest for better times.

I didnt I-Link much. We did Complex String, Grand Valley, and Apricot hill. I probably should stop bumping in to them. In turn 2 of Grand Valley(the U-turn) I got the inside line, while my other friend(the others were behind us) took the outside. We were side by side and my car started to become a bit tight so I drifted to the outside, pushing my friend into the sand. I lost 2 positions. Then at the next U-turn, my friends were braking while I was traveling at full speed right behind him and smashed him into the sand and got stuck for a while. For some reason, I stopped right when I hit him... So I kept driving. Then I saw the first place car facing the wrong way. So I passed him. It was my turn for the mistake. In the first U-turn, I didn't brake early enough and drove into the sand and spun out. Then my friend passed me.... and spun out in the other U-turn. Lousy F090s... anyway, I purposely do 540s at the end of races, but this time I started it too early and stopped near the finish line. I tried to start moving(I was backwards) and saw my friend coming and reversed, but it turned sharply and realized I was in my friend's path. I moved a few feet foward and my friend smashed me into the finish line. They were really mad at me...

GAMESHARK
He probably used GAMESHARK, I can do that to, to any car i choose. And add even more horsepower then that. I have a F 686/M with 63787 HP. If I had the gameshark port I'd hook you ppl up...But no can do...
