For all you NASCAR fans out there...

My girlfriend got free passes to the Richard Petty Driving Experience out at the Kansas Speedway. Normally it costs $100 but she got them for free through her job - very cool. So we went out there this morning and stood around for a couple hours, then suited up and rode three laps at ~160mph. Let me tell you, if you ever have the chance to do this don't pass it up. The lateral G forces were like nothing else I've felt in a wheeled vehicle. The sound of the engine was incredible - loud but not deafeningly so. The cars are much louder when you're stading outside 5 feet from the exhaust. It's hard to explain in words the rush I experienced - it was definitely a great time! I took a few pics while we were out there:
The guy everyone hates
A pack of cars waiting to roll
Three cars out on the track
Oh yeah, you can pay $250 if you want to actually drive a stock car around the track for 8 laps. It sounds like a ton of fun, but I don't know if I'd want to part with that much $$$ for 8 laps. Hell, it would've cost us $33 a lap had we not received comp tickets.
I've noticed it's been pretty stagnant around here lately. This happened a few months ago and then traffic just blew up. I'm curious to see what happens this time because the traffic on this site is very in line with how popular GT3 is at any given time. blah blah blah I'm rambling... Kerr

Why does everyone hate Gordon?! I'm sorry but i just dont get why some people dont like a young multi-WC champion.
Anyways, my stepfather had a chance to do that, but i think it was the one where you actually drive for 8 laps. he won it on a radio contest, but never got the chance to do it. Guess he really missed out.

I should clarify - I like Gordon. Maybe so many ppl hate him because he's not your typical Winston Cup winning driver. And yes, your dad truly missed out if he didn't get a chance to go.

I'm sure it's nothing compared to the real thing, but I once rode the simulator at NASCAR WOELD in Myrtle Beach. Quite an experience for far less money. The first thing that came to mind was:"How can these guys do this for 2 to 4 hours?
As for Gordon - a comment the real guy everyone loved to hate made to his son:"You know you're winning when you hear the BOOs."

I've never been a big fan of NASCAR. I like road corses better, but that would still be fun. As for it being stagnant, I would be posting, but my PS2 quit playing GT3 and quite a few other games, and since I spent my money on a Sterio system, I can't afford to have it fixed. I will be back as soon as I get the money though.

I've never been a huge NASCAR fan either, so I doubt I would pay the $100 or the $250 for either offer. It seemed like most of the people I was in line with had comp tickets like myself. I do submit that even though the track layouts may be much more boring than other race circuits, racing at close to 200mph with a pack of cars around would keep a driver from getting bored. Watching NASCAR for me gets boring unless there's a flag which causes a restart.
Dlewbell - that sucks about your PS2. I'm cuirous - what type of audio are you into... car, home or both?

I hope that 8 laps/$250 comes to Sears Point...anyway, I don't really like Gordon because he wins too much.

I wonder if anyone's played NASCAR 2002 Season for the PC yet. The PC based games are always ahead of the curve compared to console games imo.

Awsome Go-karts
Over the weekend we went to Myrtle beack and tried some indoor electric/ battery go karts..They were awsome! They had 33 hp and would turn awsome. The straight was half as long as other short gas tracks and we still got 40mph+ It costs 20 $ for a license but its good forever. You slide your card in and race..and after every race if you qualify good enough you go faster My dad started with 34 second laps and after 3 races got a 29 seconds so he was going 45mph! After you buy a license its 10$ a race. The place was called "AfterBurners Formula racing"
If you ever go to myrtle go ther (its the only one in the USA)

I'm a little confused -- So, if you get a good enough lap time they open up your top speed in following races?
Hey you guys should try out Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 on the PS2. I purchased it recently and it's about all I've been playing lately besides Dungeon Siege. It's definitely an arcade game but it's a lot of fun when you need some one on one racing action.

That's great Kerry! Feeling the G-forces is definetely a great feeling! I'm sure my car doesn't handle quite as well as those Nascar cars, but I have taken my car to the track a few times and it is a great feeling every time. You can see some of my pictures at http://community.webshots.com/user/tonyz_albums
Road tracks are much more fun than Oval's or Tri-Ovals. I raced up at Pocono Raceway in PA and on the first day we ran the infield track that only uses the straights of the main tri-oval there. On the second day they did open up one of the high banked turns and although it was fun, I like the twisties better. It was neat to enter a sharp turn at ~90 mph and exit at 110+ due to the banking of the track!
I was in Vegas back in March and wanted to race the Inday type cars at Vegas Motor Speedway, but they didn't have a track day set up while I was out there. :-( They had different packages for driving and ride alongs, and I was going to do one that had both in it. It is one thing to get in and drive yourself, but it's another thing to trust someone else to be able to control the car that your in when it feels like you're going to miss a turn and hit a wall or something. :-) Fortunately I have never been off track yet and I hope it stays that way!
