This is my first setup on GT Vault. I like a car that sticks to the track - in other words, I don't handle drifting very well. I like to get in and out of the corners / turns without sliding. The front end feels like it floats some and that bothers me. I am probably going to drop the ride height and that will probably help the floaty feeling. I will update the setup and comment when I do so. I raced this setup at Laguna Seca. I am still learning so I need to learn how to use the Limited slip initial, accel and decel to help with the corners. Comments are welcome...I would like to become a better tuner. If you should use this setup and the car slides in and out of the turns then all I can say is our driving styles are different and I can make the setup work for me.

Ride height change
Well, I did what I said I was going to do. I changed the ride height on the Esperante. I changed the front from 85 to 55 and the rear from 100 to 70. Much better for me...it got rid of that "floaty" feeling in the front and the change allowed me to get in and out of the corners a little harder. I made my latest run on Deep Forest II with the "tranny" on autoset at 30. The car had 120.9 miles.

Using your setup I managed to post a best time of 1.17.184 at Apricot Hill and since my engine isn't broken in yet I got 602hp, also I had the auto at 30 per your comment above instead of the 28 marked in the setup. Sound about right? What do you get?

The review: The first thing that caught my attention was the use of ASM, something I have not used in a long time. After taking this car for 5 laps at Apricot Hill I had a really good impression of how it handled. As mentioned by hal2000 this setup hugs the road and that is no joke. You would have to be a wild man wanting to wreck to slip this thing up. The next thing that struck me was the under steer. I use a MT when driving and found that on the sharper turns I would have to downshift and strip some momentum to avoid running off the road. Swinging through the S turns was a matter of easing off the throttle and the final turn before the straight away was handled at full throttle just by holding off on shifting for an extra heartbeat.

If sticking to the road is your type of driving and you are looking for a setup for this car than I recommend trying this one. If you find the under steer a bit too much than ease back on the ASM or lay off the gas till you are out of the apex. Overall I would have to give this setup two thumbs up, although I would like to see it done for a fully upgraded version of the car.

Thanks for the feedback
It is very humbling to have someone take your setup and "burn" off a time that took some time for me to achieve. I re-raced the car at Apricot Hill with the same setup and the best lap I could get was 1.18.639. Sooooo...I took the car to the "Free Run" section in Arcade and ran Apricot Hill again. I've always used an automatic transmission and I did so this time. I reset the ASM to "0" and took off. After a few hard laps I managed a 1.17.042. Whew! Thanks for the feedback. If you honestly think this setup could be made better please let me know how. Oh by the way...with the ASM at "0" there was less understeer.

Great setup.

I'm not much of a drifter and this setup was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the tuning time and effort spent on this.

Interesting setup
I see what you getting at with this setup. It definately puts more emphasis on getting grip on the front tires, whereas my setup concentrated more on letting the rear end drift a bit and help guide the car. This setup definately makes the car alot more user friendly verses mine.

Kudos!

Just a bit more Gear
Hii Hal2000,
I've not been able to duplicate your times at Apricot but that doesn't mean a whole lot as we all have our style of driving. Only question I really have is on the tranny. I'm all over the rev limiter in 6th gear long before corner one. Thus, loosing momentum. This is with the auto setting of 30. I'm relatively new to the world of PS2 racing but my real experienc would be to tell my crew "We need some more gear on the straights". What do you think and what is the latest setting for you in the Tranny? BTW.. 1:19:03 with this setup and 1:20:96 with default.
So sorry....that was rude!!!! First let me thank you on posting this fantastic setup that definately makes the Panoz stick!! Kudo's!!

Hi All,

Well, this setup got me my fastest time at Laguna Seca!!! Just added some softer rubber and I think she handles much better for me. Thanks Again!!!!

Tranny gear ratios
DouglasJets, I am glad the setup for this car works well for you. Being new to tuning myself I still have quite a bit to learn. One thing I haven't done is mess around with transmission gear ratios. Probably a lack of confidence along with the fact that I would have to spend some time playing with it since I don't know too much about transmissions yet. I figure if the autoset settings work for me I won't mess with them. But, I guess at some point I should try. At Laguna Seca I believe I used an autoset of 28. At Deep Forest II I used 30. By the end of the straights I may have been over the rev limiter but I can't remember. If that was the case I probably would have bumped the autoset up one notch. I may not have went over red line until the very end which probably didn't bother me too much. Dadthewheel used 30 at Apricot Hill and got the blistering time that made me try that track. He uses a manual transmission while I use an automatic. Also, you are right about driving styles. We are all different. I think the purpose of this sight is to help us all to get ideas, information and advice from each other to help us all to get our cars to run the way we each like them. Softer rubber does give you better grip...again this comes down to how you like to race. Softer rubber heats up faster, but if you don't mind pitting more often (when tire wear is on) then I say go for it. I'm always open for advice...thanks for the positive feedback.

Well Done!!
Howdy,
I think you are wise in your comment regarding the use of this site and the setups!! Kudos!!
I wouldn't use the softer compound in a race. I hate the pits! he hee Oh, depending on the track competition, I might Smile I think you are correct regarding the Tranny settings. I don't really know enough to adjust beyond final and autoset but in several runs at Run and Setting" courses, adjusting just this autoset number seems to solve my problem in running out of gear on top end. I did several small adjustments between 28 and 34 and I believe I've done a fair job of keeping off the rev limiter. I didn't try the test course. What are your times with setup 2638 at the "run&set" courses? If you don't want to publish, you can email if you like. In addition to our conversing on driving style, I think we also adapt. I've put a tune in a car and run a HOT lap, gone back to default setting (with good rubber) and in 10-15 more practice laps, come VERY close to that so called HOT lap.

Before I found this site, I thought that the "Race Car's" that are won and come sponsored were already tuned. he eh?!? Well, everything was already purchased, so?? LOL Seriously, my fastest laps (until I won an F090/S) was with my TickFord! Stock! I won Monte Carlo in Pro Japan GT with it stock and medium tires. I just drove about 50+ practice laps. Finding this site has really cut down on my need for practice laps though! :-) I just got this Esperante GTR so I am really enjoying this tuning and good conversation! If your by any chance into the Viper GTS-R or the Falcon XR8, lmk. I spend most of my time in them it seems. Thanks Again!!!

PS All.... It would be nice to have a personal vault users could save setup numbers linked to the page of the setup. What do you think? How do you save your setups?

hal2000 setup
very nice setup for the panoz. i like sticky car handling

i use the driving force pro(steering wheel) in anticipation of gt4 and i usually have to change all the great set ups here at the vault slightly. your setup was only changed in the following way to get a 1'15.503 at apricot hill

ride hieght : 65 rear

toe :+.5 rear

brake bal : 15f 14r

lim slip accel: 44( to get rid of inside wheel spin)

down force : 62 front 104 rear (to even up tire wear)

asm : 4

tcs : 3

med tires, fully broken engine @618hp

please keep in mind racers; that i use the new logitech wheel with manual transmission(stick),in simulation mode,so these changes may not work with other controllers

by the way are there any others of you out there usinig the new wheel?? f16voodoo1 at nyc dot rr dot com
