GT4 Release
All - I pre-ordered a copy of GT4 from my local Best Buy. I just called them today to get a ship date, and just as I expected they are non-committal as to whether the game will arrive at their store tomorrow. The person I spoke with advised me that the game will "maybe" be there tomorrow afternoon.
I just thought I'd let everyone know in case they made plans to take time off of work, etc. I originally did, but I will be going to work instead of wasting my time at home until the late afternoon for a "maybe".

I feel as though GT4's release should have been better orchestrated. Most other games are given a proper release date, shipped to retailers in advance, and then put on the shelves on that release date. This also creates more equal competition between retailers... I was hoping to get the game this morning, but now it looks like I only MAY have a chance to purchase it this evening.

rob - I feel you. I can't express in words how exasperated I am with Sony / Polyphony Digital and their continual pushing of the release date far beyond what anyone feels is acceptable. When details of GT4 began to solidify over a year ago, I started asking for information about the game to aid in upgrading GTVault. I require every little bit of information about the cars, what parts they can accommodate, etc. After a few tries, I never received any more information than is available to the general public. DTW tried for me as well and got no further.
I have already spent so much time upgrading GTVault for GT4 that there is no turning back. Had I known the release would be pushed back over a year and that I would receive 0 cooperation from the developers, I would not have gone to the trouble. The very least Sony and/or PD could have done was to treat me with a little more respect than the average kid asking for information. I hope no one takes offense, but I don't see anyone else trying to pull this off. I see gtvault as basically free advertising for Sony and Polyphony Digital, and if they choose to not help cultivate resources such as GTVault, those resources may cease to exist.
Every facet of this debacle they call a game release has been a disappointment. If I performed my job to the deadline ethics I have seen exhibited by Sony / PD, I would have been fired long ago.

Kerr,
If I were you, Id be Uber-Pissed, also. I mean, Im disgusted as it is. But, I can only imagine how someone like yourself, who has the definitive setup site for the GT series, must feel, given Sony/PD's ineptness.
Im sure quite a few GT fans, might had lost interest in the GT game, if it were not for being able to setup their garage vehicles properly, thus enjoying the control that it provided.
However, now with possible competition, from the likes of Forza, Enthusia and others, maybe Sony might just give a damn about the consumer, with GT5.

PipSqueek -You hit the nail on the head with regard to competition. The behavior exhibited by Sony / PD is a symptom of serious lack of competition. I played a demo of Forza at CompUSA and I was pretty impressed considering the end version will almost certainly be more polished. Forza, though, will involve more aesthetic customization than the GT series has. Overall, it will still be for serious race sim fans.
As far as interest goes - the last time I looked at the gtplanet forums the number of gamers expressing apathy towards the release of GT4 was growing rapidly.

Kerr,
I wish that PD would have helped you prepare for the release of GT4, it would have made your and our lives alot easier. Indeed it seems that teh lack of serious competition brought alot of arrogance to PD.
But if I can be of any help gathering data when I get my copy (still set for March 9 in EU) I'm glad to help. Say for example I go and collect data for mark X and e-mail you the stats or someting like that.
Greetz Zeratul.
PS. Don't let Sony/PD get you down and keep up the good work, I owe you and the tuners here alot.
Fast is on the edge of control.
Game at 99.4% guess where I'm stuck at?

zeratul - thanks for offering to help out. I am hoping to have enough help to get the car information compiled, but I will keep you in mind should I need more assistance.
Don't worry - like I said earlier, I've spent too much time on this project not to see it though to the end. Plus, I made the site for the tuning community in the first place and I know you guys appreciate it. The free marketing for PD and my frustrations with their actions are a side effect.

Yes, there has been some criticism of GT4-Asia release, thus far.
I imported it, and have been playing the Asian version since the New Year.
I just got my NA version today, so I hope they AT LEAST, put the ability to use Garage cars, in 2player.
Im also interested in seeing if 1080i looks any better. It looks great, but, the fences and some ground textures have a shimmering look, that didnt look very good on HD sets.
Other criticism, too many so-so cars to drive. How many Skyline variations does the game really need? :/
B-Spec = cheating. Maybe, with teh exception of the 24 hour Endurance races. I actually have a job.
Photo Mode...Nice, but, eh, kind of a novalty.
Still, its an excellent game, ESPECIALLY considering the aging PS2.

From what I've read in that chaotic thread on GTPlanet regarding the North American release, 2 player garage cars are in along with many of the fixes/additions to be included in the PAL version.

The GT4 car list
Sure, I'm glad GT4 is here at last, and we all know it'll be great. Still, from all I've learned about it up to now, it looks like it could have been better.
The car list, for instance, is almost a scam. Go to GT Planet and read the thread on the North American release car list. Many good comments there (although you'll have to weed through the off-topic leaf spring nonsense...). A case can be made that KY and his PD people have little respect for anything non-Japanese, including racing series that do not feature Japanese equipment. Sure, there are technically 721 cars on the list, but hundreds of them are redundant variants of the same car, and there are so many that should have been there and easily could have been included, but were left off anyway.
Sorry to hear Sony has dissed you so badly, Kerr. How they can not see the value of your efforts is beyond me.

GT4 tomorrow!!
According to the guy at E/B Games in the mall near me here in Southern Oregon, we'll have ours tomorrow for sure. I paid a $5.00 deposit for dibs on mine. I also paid a $5.00 deposit for the Prima Stategy Guide to go with it that was supposed to available last Wednesday, but it keeps getting pushed back, now until early March,....go figure. I'm not holding my breath for the game for tomorrow either,....but wishfull thinking has me praying for GT4 for this weekend. Happy driving........... Tis

I pre ordered my copy today at EB Games , and they called me at 8pm tonight at my house letting me know I could come pick it up , its a 45 minute drive for me so I will pick it up at lunch tomarrow.
I have read horror stories already about how bad jaggies are in HDTV 1080i
I was hopping for better graphics as I have a 60" HDTV with 500 watt surround sound system I was looking forward to making my house implode with the car sounds And drive the wife nuts !
Kerr , dont let PD get you down as your site is the best around , and glad I found it as I cant tune a GT car to save my butt , and plus I dont have the time to fiddle and test as I am an old married man with a spoiled wife and 2 pups, that I only get a few minutes at time to race. I have had GT3 for 3 years and only 75 % throught it .LOL

I'm going to call the Best Buy today to see if they have my pre-order. I've heard that the strategy guide had lots of errors which is why the release date has been pushed. Par for the course I guess!
HD - I've held off on buying an HD set until 1080p sets become more commonplace later this year. The 5th gen DLPs from Samsung look awesome. Either way, I'm sure it won't help jaggies unless you're doing some post processing either through a PC or an expensive scaler. I've noticed that the PS2 in general has always been very poor looking from an anti-aliasing perspective when compared to the XBox and Game Cube. The same can be said for the PS1 vs. the N64 and Sega Dreamcast.

I have a 55" MItsubishi rear-projection HDTV. I wanted teh Samsumg DLP, but, getting my wife to agree on spending $3k, was an achievment on its own. I didnt want to press it.
I havnt seen anything on the new DLP's.
Im looking forward to the PS3, assuming SOny doesnt keep pushing back its release date. I believe its suppose to have DTS sound support, in addition to its highly touted engine. Until then, Im thinking this is my last PS2 game.

I don't know. A lot of effort goes into a site like this, so it depends on how much I like Forza and if I feel the tuning engine gives people a realistic experience. I created GTVault because I loved the first 3 games in the GT series.

I just called the Best Buy store and they ddn't receive their shipment this morning, so it looks like they won't place the game on the shelves until tomorrow.
So I decided to call the local EB Games, and they had it yesterday evening just like SprayTech mentioned. Screw the $5 pre-order with Best Buy, I'm heading to EB Games this evening.

Sorry to hear about that slight delay with Best Buy. Hope you get your copy tonight at EB. My friend and I waited for about 2 hours, because the manager delivering the game got pulled over by the police. heh. Anyway! Looking forward to the setups for GT4 on this site!

I will do more business with EB Games as I called yesterday morning before lunch and asked if GT4 was actually going on the shelves on the 22nd like PD said , and the guy said he was hoping to put the game on the shelve
buy 7pm but most likely 8pm that night,
I also called Best Buy & Circuit City to see if they were putting GT4 on the shelve on the 22nd and they told me that GT4 was set back till march.
They dont know what is going on at those stores !!!
Thank You EBGames for saving me a pre ordered copy back , been playing mine for 2 hours now , I am fairly pleased with it .............It does have a few jaggies in HD but only when the pop up screen comes up before the race , but after that it looks good , the cars actually are better sounding too !!!
I do like that you were able to transfer 100,000 credits & the first 2 levels of the license tests from your saved GT3 game
I raced the first 5 FR tracks and WOW laguna Seca and the others are highly detailed . Cant wait to advance higher into the game . Just wish I had one of those GT racing seat set ups , as a regular chair is killing my knees with the foot pedals.
