Stealing setups will NOT be tolerated
I was hoping I'd not have to write a post about this, but apparently there are a lot more assholes playing GT4 than there was GT3. Quite simply, if you are caught stealing setups from another tuner, all of your setups will be deleted and you will be banned. This goes for setups posted anywhere on the web.

My apologies go out to the tuners whose setups were stolen. All known instances of plagiarism have been removed. Let me know immediately if you see any in the future.

For clarification, it is not prohibited to use one's setup as the basis for your own. Give credit where it's due.

I read this setup and I agree with all that but i must say that sometimes when i post a thread it appears from nowhere a setup, maybe its just because I am new at forums. so to prevent any problems I must give credits to who ever posted the setup first because i never posted a setup in gtvault

Bad link and a question
Kerr:

I found that the link to the official site was bad. Here is the address that I just got off the official site:

http://www.us.playstation.com/games.aspx?id=SCUS-97328

Also, any chance of setting up a "printer friendly" link in the new format? That was pretty handy.

I have a few tunings to add in the near future - Not as excellent as Fumes, but they helped me win some of the earlier races.

Keep up the good work!

johnbee - Thanks for letting me know about the link. I accidentally had a ")" in it, which of course caused it to break.

You should also see a Printer Friendly link on the setup pages. Clicking it will hide all the margins just like the old site did.

I didn't know where to post this but I have a problem. When I see somebody has twice as many setups as they do comments it bothers me.I can't stand it. It's as if they want to be part of the top ten list. The only top ten list that matters is the "tuner by # of votes" so I don't know what people are trying to accomplish by putting in alot of ****** setups. They should spend more than 5 minutes with each car. They should comment on others work. We all help each other here and lets try and keep it that way. Nod

There is unfortunately nothing to stop someone from posting a bunch of half-hearted setups, but the numbers will shake out in the end due to the new voting system. This is precisely why I implemented the setup voting system. Because votes cannot be spammed, # of votes can be a valuable metric when looking for tuners who put a lot of time and effort into their setups. I say can be because everyone needs to use it for it to work. Some people are consistently using it while most aren't at all. I can't force them Smile

You're absolutely right, therat1989:
the best gtvault tuners try to help other people, to give suggestions, and they appreciate also other's (hard) work. They don't post loads of setups only for appear in the TopTen list: it's useless.
Only votes and comments are important. Nod

As of right now we have 6,619 members. It would be nice if more of the non-tuning members started voting, it is not as if they need to leave comments on why they voted or anything like that.

Maybe it would help out some to make a separate thread on the home page. I know you have that big banner over the setup when it is viewed but… I will leave the comment at that right? Also maybe you can add a line at the bottom of printed setups that says something to the effect of “Vote for this setup if you enjoyed it”. Well I think you get the gist?

Part of helping new tuners can also be, giving them input on their setup. I think it is also helpful for people to post their setups to get feedback and/or advice. If we can't post our setups unless they are perfect, then why allow "unapproved" tuners to post.

Now that is a valid point and I have to agree completely with it! Nod

I think what therat1989 (correct me if I am wrong) is trying to say is:

    1) Some tuners spend what seems to be only 5 minutes on a setup. Also they use pretty much identical settings on each car, despite the car being FF, 4WD, MR, 115hp or a 1,015hp.
    2) Some tuners post setups and either ignore feedback and/or dodge general comments by the other members here.

Naturally there is nothing that can be done about #2; some members just don’t leave many comments. In the case of #1 we don’t have the right to stop them from posting, Kerr could do it but then this would become a regime like another site I know of. The only thing we members can do is basically what I am doing. Look over the setup and ignore it if eyeballing it says it can’t work.

For non-tuners this can be pretty hard to do, experience teaches us tuners what values can work and what don’t. So for non-tuning members I don’t have any suggestions. Well there is one: you could always ask a tuner you use and respect for there opinion.

Well look at the #'s. Look at the top 10 by # of votes.and then look at the # of setups they have. This is a good way to show how ,I struggle to say this, good someone is. I don't want to Brag and I'm not but I have more votes than I have setups. Unlike some others on the top 10.
g2g..I'll post back later.

The intent isn't to disallow a tuner, regardless of their experience level, from posting a setup. Posting setups that are a work in progress is encouraged, due to the fact that feedback can and will help. What is not intended, and not appreciated by the users at large, is setup spamming for the purposes of getting into the Top 10 lists. If you look through the site you will see a few tuners who post generally the same numbers on extremely large quantities of cars in a very short amount of time. This is extremely annoying and serves no purpose.

However, there is no way to programatically tell which tuners are spamming and which aren't. Hence, the new setup voting system and long established comment threads. I cannot stress enough how important it is that the voting system be used consistently across the board.

DTW - If a user can't see that banner at the top of a setup (very close to the thumbs up no less) they are a lost cause. Nod

Imk glad to see the theft incident was cleared up (Im please at how promt you guys were to get it corected, and remove the setting stolen from our site.)

Im a little insulted somebody told one of our members to Remove a link to the GT4 Tune Shop out of there Sig (I dont see the harm in that unless you have a Problem with us) I have kept a link to the gtvault at Our old Board from Day 1.

But he was also told that our board was a "Copy Cat" board.

I really hope this was not from the staff of this site (As it would force me to loose ALOT of respect for this board as I curently have alot for you guys)

In responce (to whome it may concern) I will just point out We are exclusive to GT4 CARS, AND have been tuning and posting set ups for GT4 well BEFORE GTvault, Its a Given you guys were here before us, but in no way were YOU the First GT4 board, and Beleve me WE wont be the last (Its a Game for Tuning Cars), its a Given "Tuner" forums would open up when new titles are released. We never copied ANYBODY, and All our settings Are legit (Remember it was one of your members stealing settings off of our site. Its humerous the Term "Copy Cat" used)

For the Staff if from the Staff: Please let me know know if you dont want our members also spending time on your board, and if they are alowed let me know if you have a Problem with them leaving a link to our boards in there Sig (Even at Gamefaq you can do that and they have the most posting ristrictions Ive ever seen) I will erase your link off our boards (Here is the link so you can see we have given you your respect http://www.gt4tuneshop.com/links.htm ) and I will know how much integrity the gtvault really has. I really HOPE it didnt come from the Staff.
