GT4 Car List
Update part trois: Avi24 posted a release date of 1/7/2004 from gamefaqs.com. Thanks for the post, Avi24!
Update part deux: GT2000 posted another link, this time to some GT4 Garage pics. Props to GT2000 -- enjoy!
Update: A member over at the GTP forums, Sage, e-mailed me the other day to say that the list of cars that has been circulating around is a wish list as opposed to a confirmed list. Just thought you folks should know. Here is another link to a lengthy thread about this at GTP.
GT2000 posted a link to a potential car list for GT4. If the list turns out to be accurate, I must say that I will be very satisfied. Let's hope the large quantity of cars doesn't mean a drop in quality elsewhere in the upcoming game. Take a look at the list here.

Impressive List

The list is pretty impressive, but there are many cars that don't really need to be on a Gran Turismo game. I don't really want a ton of more cars, I want more quality cars. I also hope they improve on the older cars, a la the Ford GT40 Race Car was a huge disappointment to me on GT3, along with the Shelby Cobra. The cars just didn't perform up to what they should. I hope cars isn't the only thing they add to the game. I hope they finally add more real life tracks, and I mean a whole lot more real life tracks, there are so many tracks they could put into the game, instead of making up tracks. I just think it would be a whole lot better to see all real tracks, I enjoyed watched the Champ car race Sunday. It was at Laguna Seca and I always knew where the cars were on the track because of playing GT3. I watch all these other races, and other than Laguna Seca and Monaco, I don't recognize any course that any series races at. I also would like to see the rally races be real rally races, not around a course. I want to see the rally racing done around stages, just like the WRC does it. Car damage would be nice, along with having to deal with fuel loads and completely redoing the tire wear, it's terrible in GT3! Especially after watching some of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Bentley's at times were going 4 stints on a single sets of tires. The most I've gotten so far out of GT3, was 22 laps. I would also like to be able to switch between kph and mph, everything outside of the US is in kph and I have to think for awhile to convert kph to mph, and I would just rather have it in kph. But please keep HP and ft/lbs on power and torque, I don't know what a good kw or nm is on a car. More tracks to test cars on sure would be nice. Well other than, remove Test Course from any series race, especially when it's a 10 lap or even 5 lap race, Test Course annoys the hell out of me and puts me to sleep. Having a car go over 200mph is not likely to happen on any course, unless you are in a Formula 1 car, but other than that, you really aren't going to reach that number. Right now, that's all I can think of.

I'm very impressed, and that list alone will probably make me want to get the game. Nissan and Toyota have a massive amount of cars, showing a little more favor this game to the japanese manufacturers in GT4. I'm glad they beefed up the roster of some makes like BMW too. I really hope that list is true.

Is GT4 going to be run on a PS2 or PS3??
All I want to know is whether it will run on the current PS2 or whether we are forced to go out and buy a new platform.
Whatever the car list is, it's probably going to be good. And graphics wise, the screen shots so far look outstanding.
I've already decided to buy the game, no doubt about it. It's just a question of sooner or later, sooner if GT4 runs on PS2 and later if it needs PS3.

You've already decided to buy it too? lol. So many games right now I've already decided to buy right when they come out. Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Gran Turismo 4, and Halo 2 are just a couple I can think of at the moment.

Yeah, no doubt about it.
I already know what sort of game and playability I will get in this game before it's out.
Just like GT, GT2, and GT3 prior to his, I'm had months and months of playability and replayability on this game. I don't think GT4 will be any worse.
The graphics just keep getting better.

GT 4
GT4 is going to be for the PS2 and it is expected to hit the shops at the end of this year and know I want a track list.
I think the tracks are going to be from GT1, GT2 and GT 3 and a few more but if not I think the tracks are going to be real tracks form around the world.
I would like to say thanks to Kerr for showing the link and to also ask if you have every thought of designing a forum to go on gtvault so that we can talk about other games and different platforms like the Xbox.

GT4 Car List

As a true petrol head, and a British one at that I can tell you that Sony ran a day at the Millbrook proving grounds to allow them to test about 120 British Sports cars. Nothing new there, the list from GT2000 has several Brits shown... but It doesn't mention Ginetta. The Ginettas represented include the current production G20 (1.8l FR) and G27 (1.8l FR) and G20 race (1.8l chipped FR) car as well as the older models such as G4 (1.5l FR), G12 (anything from 1.5 cosworth to Lotus twins MR), G15 (1.0l RR), G21(anything from 1.8 to 3.0l FR), G32 (1.6l Ford MR) and G33 (3.9l V8i FR).
Each car was photo'd a 100 times and engine notes recorded and will appear in the same colours but these can be changed. Having been fortunate enough to have the Silver grey G27 in my own 'real' garage for a week including some trackday action I can't wait to get back behind the wheel 'virtually'. In the mean time I'll have to stick to driving my G20. The 1.8 engine in Ginetta tune produces round about 130bhp but given the 660kg weight, it hustles along nicely with 60mph (100kph) in about 6.56 seconds. By the way, the suspension on the G20 and G27 are fully tuneable so a sports pack should not be required in the GT tuners options!

Well I just got the newest issue of Game Informer in and sounds like to me there will be a track in New York City, somewhere around Time Square. The game will also have used cars again. The racing is still limited to six cars though (what a disappointment!). AI has been enhanced dramatically to where computer drivers will learn from mistakes and will show human traits, such as being courteous or downright aggressive. Tsukuba Race Circuit (never heard of it) will be included, along with 50 different tracks (many of which can be raced in reverse). Since the gameplay and physics engine have been refined to such a point that handling is second nature, all of the courses are tighter in design. On a rally course, a car came screaming through a corner, and the crowd of onlookers showed cheering, and then they transformed into fearing onlookers as the car came near them. Including during pitting is a full crew. An Online Arena will be including allowing up to six players to race. So far, from what GI knows, voice chat won't be supported, but some kind of communication will be available. An exact date is not out yet, but probably look for it to come out around the holiday season.
Oh! Also, Logitech is also designed/designing a steering wheel made just for GT4. It is said to have 900 degrees of rotation and is supposed to mimic an authenic street car. It has a shift knob and also paddle shifters on it. No price has been given, but it will ship the same date as GT4.
Well this is basically what Game Informer has on GT4 right now, just thought I would pass the info on. Most of this is probably already known, but I wasn't sure if it was or not.

GT4 isn't going to be completely online, but it will have online access. Also, next month's GI is going to have a whole big story over GT4, so you all might want to check that out.

Thanks for the post, ChevyCorvette. I don't typically read gaming mags but I may pick up next month's Game Informer if there is to be a spread on GT4.
Judging by what I've seen and read this game is going to be phenomenal!

GT4 Car List: More info
This was from Game Spot but I lost where I found it at. It mentioned that there will definitely be a New York City track along with one from the Grand Canyon and some of the cars I heard and seen that are going to be in the game are the Pontiac Vibe GT, Chevy SSR, Subaru WRX, The New Mini Cooper, The Pontiac Solstice, possibly the El Camino and a F-150 SVT Lightning, and maybe, just maybe, the New Bugatti, Maserati, and Porsche, along with over 900 other cars and 100+ tracks

I'll believe the 900 cars / 100 tracks when I see it. I can't think of a game that has near that many cars, much less a game with the quality and attention to detail of the GT series.

I find the 900/100 list to be really hard to believe. I don't really remember the exact number of cars in GT2, but I think it was something around 600 and saying that I don't really see GT4 having a whole lot more than that. I'm pretty sure that on the GTP forums I read something about this list being a wish list; I'll go to GTP every so often and read some of the forums, but I'm not a member or anything. I'll probably be getting the next issue of GI in probably a little over a week (don't hold me to that though) and I'll give what info I can after reading it.

The list may say 500 plus, but many are confirming that there will be more than all of the previous games (more like 750~)

Yes, but who is 'many' and are they a reliable source of information? I don't mean to second guess you, Avi24, however this isn't the first time inaccurately accurate pre-release info would have been bandied about.

Long Reply

Sorry, forgot that, but it came from an exclusive interview from a Japanese magazine with the executive producer (fill in name here) {this is from the E3 interview posted at ign.com:
May 14, 2003 - Sony Computer Entertainment America today held an exclusive Q&A session with Polyphony Digital's President and Producer Kazunori Yamauchi who provided the most details on Gran Turismo 4 to date, including the game's biggest advancements, changes and additions.
Speaking through a translator while demoing the first demo of GT4, Yamauchi addressed the issues revolving around the fourth game in the series by explaining that GT4 will go online (up to six players); it will offer more than 500 cars, ranging from the earliest race cars ever made to the fastest, newest games on the planet; it offers circuits based on real world circuits, many new courses from all over the world, and it will feature better, more human AI.
Due sometime in 2004 (that's as specific as they got), GT4 offers gamers a simulation-style racing game that re-creates the sensation of driving cars better than any game in the history of videogames, and of course, it's exclusive to PlayStation 2. SCEA debuted GT4 at E3 yesterday at its press conference.
For those fans who follow the series religiously, Yamauchi confirmed that GT4 will officially not feature car model damage, a change that's been much discussed among religious GT fans. GT will not feature USB Voice-Over Online support either. And, at least at this point, there are still no people shown driving these cars. Yamauchi declined to answer specifics about customization features as well as licensed cars. It's believed not confirmed that Ferrari, Lamborghini and other European streets cars will be in GT4.
Because the game is still very early in development (it's in an early alpha stage), several questions were not yet answerable. For instance, no information about the kinds of online play was available. The demo we played showed three new tracks -- The Grand Canyon (rally), NY, and Tsukuba Circuit -- but clearly there are numerous other tracks to be revealed in the future. Based on the demo, the car roster totals about 30 vehicles, and clearly there are going to be more, approximately 470 more. And from what we could determine at this point, the only change in major changes in the AI are that no car will ever trail too far behind you, and that they won't smash into you if you jam on the brakes before a sharp turn.
and also provided by ign.com; 25 cars definitely in the game:
Alpine Renault 1600S
Nissan Fair Lady 240AG
Subaru Impreza Rally Car
Subaru Impreza WRX Sti
Mitsubishi Evo VII Rally
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII
Chevrolet SSR

Great - Avi24 thanks for the information. I'd still like to see a quote from someone at Sony about whether the Race Modification feature will be available. But, if they're coming out with more tracks and cars then I won't be too disappointed if it isn't there.

Cars not in list
I just thought of a couple cars that would be great to have, but aren't in this wish list. What about the Mosler MT900R, Mosler MT900S, and Mosler MT900 Photon? All three of those would be great to see included in GT4. Yet still, I haven't gotten GI in yet, should be in soon though.

Maybe the tuning will allow you to replicate the Mosler from the Corvette.
