Sony drops online option for GT4 (thanks to GT2000 for the news)

More news

----------------------------------------------------
GT2000 posted this in my SRS review thread, but I think it's definitely worthy of it's own post. I am not at all surprised that this is the case, and frankly I'm pretty unhappy about the second 'online-friendly' version which is planned for a 2005 release. Will those of us who purchased the first game be able to exchange it for the online version? News below...

----------------------------------------------------
Sony has used today's Tokyo Game Show to announce that its long, long-awaited racer Gran Turismo 4 has had its online content excised in order to meet a pre-Christmas release date. The decision, while inevitably disappointing for many gamers, at least dismisses the speculation that Polyphony Digital's auto-fest would be delayed until 2005.

Gran Turismo 4 is expected to be released on 17 December in Europe. Meanwhile, Sony will be releasing a second, online-friendly version of its PS2 GT title in 2005.

Strong rumours from within Sony and Polyphony Digital had suggested that online problems were the primary cause of the delay to Gran Turismo 4, with the team encountering serious difficulty in getting the online racing modes up to scratch. It seems likely that Sony took a decision to simply drop that functionality entirely from the game in order to ensure that it hit its Christmas release date.

I can't believe how much this sucks, I was actually going to try and get into online racing but now...

Can anyone find the link to the news release itself?

Maybe they shouldn't release the game with just online capabilites. Don't you think then it should be with either more cars or features OR just an expansion pack? (Is that possible for PS2?).

I think that the *huge* loyal fan base the GT series shouldn't have to pay for 'extra' content that was slated to be in GT4 but was culled due to time / budget / whatever constraints. IMO Prologue was released with this kind of mindset.

GT4 and GT4 Online!!!!!!!!
No news this time. I am just waiting for GTA SA now but I do have some idea about what PD and sony plan to do with GT4.

1. I have a strong feeling that GT4 Online will only have half the number of tracks that GT4 will have + I think it will be more of an add on to GT4 like GT Concept was and who knows maybe you can only play GT4 online for online gaming with no offline game!!

2. Sony and PD will more than likly setup there own server for playing GT4 online and make you pay for the number of hours that you are online playing. Ha ha what a suprise more money there making.

3.
I hope they sell GT4 online at a lower price.

GT4 slips to 2005 for Europe
Yep just found this out today (22ndOctober)
*copy paste*

SCEE has confirmed that the long, long-awaited Gran Turismo 4 will now be released in 2005 across Europe. The announcement follows the recent news that developer Polyphony Digital has removed the online elements from Sony's flagship racer.

"We can confirm that GT4 will now be released in the first quater of 2005," a Sony Computer Entertainment said yesterday. "The localisation of GT4 across the PAL territories is a huge undertaking because the product is localised into 13 different languages across the PAL territories, therefore the process takes considerably longer than it does in Japan. The GT brand strives for perfection, therefore we need to ensure that the localisation and testing of the product is done to the highest possible standard."

I will update you on any new release details as soon as Sony releases anything on the TGN site! Oh well looks like I me and anyone else in Europe is gunna be waiting again.

Oh yea, Kerr here is the link http://www.totalgames.net/pma/20732

GT2000 - sorry, I didn't see youf post from 11/17 - I will post this link on the main post.

I for one am more than tired of the continual delays. I know a lot of people who've simply quit caring and have written GT4 off because they're tired of it.

Must admit I was slowing going off GT4. I just coudn't help thinking that there gunna stick in loads of concept car rubbish but that's not the case from what I know... there will be a few but most of the cars will be normal.

Anyway this is a link to a GT4 pictures melt down.
