Need For Speed Underground 2!!!
Hey guys, just wanted to let you know that Need For Speed Underground 2 is scheduled for a release date of 11/15/2004. Click the link here or on the Flash movie to the right for all the details. I played through the first NFSU this past summer, and it was one of the best arcade racer's I've played in years. In fact, my girlfriend wasn't too happy with me for a few days as I played through it. That's water under the bridge now... until NFSU2 comes out that is.

even though i'm not a fan of the street racing scene at all, the first need for speed - underground was such a fun game! it became my 'play this when i am bored' game; and because of it, i am working on completing it for the 10th time...

i'm looking forward to this sequel, but the AI needs to be seriously improved. it's very dissatisfying to have no reward for good driving, as the AI will always keep your pace.

-rob- -- regarding AI: This is true of many arcade racers, because the inverse rubber band effect also happens to keep the not-so-good racers feeling good about themselves.

yes.

i've noticed this effect in a few gran turismo 3 races as well, specifically in the rally races. i'm guessing this is because it must be very hard to script AI that can properly drift around corners on the rally tracks.

also on some simple arcade races (2 laps on midfield, for instance), the ai's pace tends to slow down if you fall too far behind, showing that inverse rubber band effect you were talking about.

SpeedFreak - good to hear from you again. Man, that's terrible about your PS2 being stolen. I had an N64 stolen from me a few years ago, so I know how that goes. I imagine you'll find some way to get another PS2, considering GT4 will again raise the bar for all other racing games. Smile

Man, that sucks, damn poor people who can't afford a system.... Anyway, I don't think I can get another PS2 unless I get job. My dad thinks I got too many games already...he's probably right. Man I really want that GT4... Maybe my friends will get it and I can play it at their place.. oh well, whatever, I got other racing games to keep me alive,

other games

When I got the PS2 for my kids ( wink, wink) I didn't know I was going to be a racing game junky. I got GT3 because it was on sale at Costco. That was it, I was hooked. In my looooooooooonnnnnnnng wait for GT4, I have been looking for a good driving game to keep me going. I have purchased World of Outlaws,Rally Fusion, R: Racing Evolution and Grand Prix Challenge. Fusion was the worst! In fact you can have it. The other three were okay but not GT3 if you know what I mean. Is NFSU2 (or 1) a good replacement for GT3 or GT4? Or will I just miss the real thing.
I'll try being nicer if you try being smarter.

NFSU2 is a totally different game as it's an arcade racer vs. the GT series being sims. If you don't appreciate totally unrealistic physics and handling, then I recommend steering clear. If I were you, I'd try renting the first one to see if you like it. I like arcade racers as well as sims, so I thoroughly enjoyed the first NFSU. Definitely stay away from SRS, though (see my lengthy review).

sim /arcade?

Of the games I mentioned, which are arcade and which are sims? I have a feeling Fusion is the only arcade.

To be honest I've never played any of them! Someone else may have to weigh in, but let me say that while NFSU doesn't have the depth that GT3 does it is still fun for the short term.

i'm sure everyone knows already, but the pc version of the game came out yesterday i believe :-)

i just ordered a copy myself-- a good deal at $40 retail is a nice change to the typical $50.

well, the game arrived yesterday Smile

wow, what an improvement over the original! it is so much more open ended. you do the races in any order you want, and you drive around the city to get to them. there are different tuning/body shops around town where you upgrade your car.

i was looking forward to the tuning aspect of this game, and i think i'm satisfied. there are a multitude of tuning options to do with suspension/transmission/nitrous and whatnot. i stiill haven't dabbled in this field though.

the engine sounds are unbelivable! there is nothing like being able to hear the turbo spool up!

overall i'm very satisfied with this game. i think even people who are against the ricer scene can enjoy it if they take it for what it is. it's truely a fun game!

That's great news, -rob-. I have been looking forward to this game and was hoping for a lot more open ended experience than the first noe offered. I can't wait to get my copy.
