This is my BTR Mk. III

- Changes from Mk.I -

After messing around trying to tune the camber angles on Mk. I, I decided it wasn't up to the level that I wanted it at. I bought a new one (silver this time), bought some different parts, and hit the Nurburgring to tune. The new setup isn't that much different than the first, so if you didn't see it, you aren't missing any major changes. The changes I did make are the addition of a FC transmission and FC limited slip.

- Changes from Mk.II -

Some extensive camber tests were inconclusive (the B-Spec AI can't drive the BTR very consistently), so I set camber at what appeared to give the best grip. The front is a bit low to keep the grip up on fast sweepers, since the BTR has a tendency to understeer at speed. I really wish we had some real tire data to work with for setting camber instead of the "shot in the dark" method.

In addition, I changed the ballast a bit. The initial setup had 20 kg of ballast in the nose, plus 75 kg of neutral ballast to represent a driver. For this version, I pulled the nose ballast, leaving just the driver. Feel free to put your own weight in (or remove the ballast altogether).

- Notes -

For the transmission, change the Auto Set first, then adjust the individual gears, and change the final drive ratio last. These setups are designed to have the "same" transmission with a different final drive gear- to adjust for a track, just change the final drive.

As of right now, I only have two setups done for it- the "Standard" road setup and the "Bumpy" setup for tracks like the 'Ring. There will be a dirt/snow version later (assuming I ever get the time to run it).

"Bumpy"
Spring Rate- 6.7/8.9
Ride Height- 130/130
Shock Bound- 6/7
Shock Rebound- 9/8
Toe Angle- -3/0
Stabilizers- 5/3

Init. Torque- 12
LSD Accel- 20
LSD Decel- 6

Final Drive- 4.085

Any comments are welcome.

Tuned for use with the DFP.

Thanks, both for the positive feedback and for leaving feedback to begin with.

I put a LOT of time in with the BTR (both stock and with various tunings) for a dedicated BTR thread at Gamefaqs, so I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted to do with it. It's nice to see that someone else likes it, too.

One of these days I might actually get the time to finish the dirt/snow setup.

Have fun.

WOW. I drive the ring (or try to) in BTRs, but nothing compares to this tune. No unpreditability, no high speed changes...excellent setup!!! Smirk

Thanks, man. I'm glad you appreciate the setup.

If you haven't swapped tires yet, you might want to try the S3s it comes on. The BTR handles much better on S-grade rubber than on the specified N-grade (more so than most cars).

Any chance you could do a yellow bird setup running full 797 HP??

The Yellow Bird isn't that much different mechanically from the BTR, so my BTR suspension setup should work OK. You'll probably want to bump the rear spring rate down by 0.5 or so and add 5-10 to the LSD: IT and LSD: Accel.

Adjusting the final drive gear will accomodate the extra power and should still give you even coverage of the powerband.

Where you're going to run into trouble is slapping 800 horsepower into an already unstable car. Lengthing out the first few gears can help you keep the power under control, but you'll still have to be light on the throttle.

---

Honestly, I don't think I can improve much on the stock form of the Yellow Bird. All of the Rufs are incredibly well tuned to begin with, and they're very touchy about their suspension setup. It's really hard to make any changes without destroying the handling of the car.

Also, my BTR setup took me over two months and 800 in-game miles (on two different BTRs) to get where it is now, and I don't have the time to play GT that much any more (stupid job!).

Give my above suggestions a try. If you're having trouble with a certain aspect of the CTR's handling, let me know and I'll take it for a spin and see what I can suggest.

Later.
