Tranny Trick Use!..

I'm posting this setup for a little help. Some friends and I are having a little race with some guide lines to follow, a Formula. The car must be under 400HP, use S1 tyres and have a minimum weight of 1150kg. My car is set to 1155kg.

The car is tested on Grand Valley with a best lap around the 2:02's. I like to have my cars setup to drift a little and power slide on entry, but so far I can only get it to drift on entry when I feint so I'm having a little trouble dialing in a little 'brake drift' into the setup.

I don't want it to be a full blown drift car, as it IS a race, but I like it fun to drive. Grip driving gets a little boring. At Grand Valley the main problem corners are:

1st corner: Though I can get the rear end out a little if I feint from the right side of the track, but I'd like to be able to brake drift here.

Tight hairpin: I'd like to be able to brake drift but it seems Grip driving is my only way around it.

Left after the hairpin: The rear just doesn't want to come out enough for me.

Right hander of the NEW section before the left into the tunnel: There just doesn't seem to be enough torque to get the rear out as much as I'd like.

Left to Right Double Tunnel section: It will drift a little but only if I get the line perfect. It used to be my favourite section in GT3 but now I'm getting annoyed that I can't 'chain' it consistantly.

Right hander in the Tunnel after the bridge: It's pure grip here for me. I'd like some brake drift here also.

I think the main problem is that there just isn't enough torque in this car for medium and high speed corners to get the rear out on Wide Open Throttle. At the double hairpin at the end of the track, there seems to be plenty though.

I'd really like some feedback on this so thanks everyone for your efforts..

Just a final note, I like to rear steer the car. I'm not a drifter. Any countersteer I do is quite marginal. I like to slide it in and correct my line with the throttle and maybe a hint of counter..

Thanks for the help.. Cheers!

Hey kaizen, I really like your "purist approach" to tuning cars Thumbs Up . I've experienced the same problems you describe with too many cars in gt4, if your hard set on running the mazda, I would try shifting the weight to the rear, raising rear spring and stab levels. Maybe lower camber values, and I would definitely lower lsd decel to around 15.

If I ran in your described race I would run a clio sport v6 phase II, with stage 3 weight reduction, stage 2 na, some of the other engine mods. I obtained a car heavy enough with 385hp. Easily ran sub 2'00''s with s1 tires. If your interested I have a setup for that car, change the na to 2, take off tcs and lower rear springs a few ticks.

Cheers!

Oh ya I almost forgot, take of the wing, you won't need it, much more fun to drive without

Big Grin tell me what you think.

Rules of the game.. The GT Monster Battle..
Hey aspen, it's good to see someone is actually reading and replying to my post, lol Big Grin

The RX-8 is just the first in a line of many.. I've asked my friend's to have at least 2 cars competing in each class. Personally, I'm aiming for around 5 per class but that will take such a long time as I'm not the fastest tuner around and I don't have as much playtime as I'd like. That's why I'm here for help..

Just in case you're interest, I've tried to devise a formula so that most cars in GT can compete without having too much of an advantage over another car. The main factor between each car is the power to weight advantage/disadvantage a car will have against another so this is what I've come up with:

GT300 - Max 300hp Min 900kg N3
GT400 - Max 400hp Min 1150kg S1
GT500 - Max 500hp Min 1250kg S2
GT600 - Max 600hp Min 1350kg S3
GT Monster - Max 900hp Min 1450kg R2

FWD cars are allowed a 100kg or less handicap and 4WD cars are allowed harder compound rears

All modifications are allowed

NOS and Driver Aids are banned

Ballast can be used to bring the car's weight within the restrictions

Also, with this formula I'm hoping some cars will be able to race in other classes
eg. GT300vsGT400, GT400vsGT500, GT500vsGT600 etc..

I haven't done any testing between classes yet so I'm hoping it'll work. I may possibily raise the weight of each class above the GT300 class by another 50kg.

Ultimately, my goal is to have a garage where every car can race against each other, depending on the track of course, and still have a fun tight race. Of course it's impossible to have any car race against another, but I just want to have more than a handfull of cars that are capable or running against one another. Plus, you won't here anymore more of those "you got more power!" or "you're car's lighter!" excuses..

One more thing. I told my friend's to chip in a couple bucks and we'll have a medal or trophy, depending on how many people we can get, made up for the over all winner!..

Your races sound cool, how do you compete? I would asume solo laps or races against ai, then everyone compares times? one on one split screen is fun but lan is the best, havn't done it in a while but it is great! Anyway sharkport to verify times or what?, try that clio already and tell me what you think, I'd like to race with you and your friends.

We play split screen. As I understand it, you can't use your own garage in a LAN game. If it were a lap time shoot out we'd use harder tyres so there is more skill involved in controlling the car. In GT mode the tyre choice seems to be a great balance between drift and grip, and in Arcade mode it leans alittle more towards drift so it's quite a fun and challenging race we have.

In the end we aren't really aiming for quick lap times. All's we won't is a fun race where we can do a little exhibition drifting and smoke up the screen when we want, or turn in some quick grip times without a major time difference between the two styles, depending on how much angle you're getting of course. But, if you're more of a powerslider, like I am, then there shouldn't be to much difference between lap times.
