Hey all, just trying to catch up on the conversations going on here and saw this about racing, bimmers and Audis.
sidtastic - To answer your question from another post, yes, I will link to your racing site provided you link back to me.

That's too bad about your friend's VR4. A nice VR4 is so rare to find these days. I may have missed it, but what year M3 did you own?
Re: Racing @ GTVault. I've had numerous discussions about this over the years. I have a lot of ideas about integrating racing into GTVault. As with my setup system, it would be totally unique and blow the shit out of any other times posting site. The bad news is I currently have 0 time for programming outside of work. Hopefully as the weather cools in the fall I will have more time to spend on it and make it a reality.
PaganiZondaC12Racer - I didn't know you'd been to Skip Barber. I take it you got a lot out of it? I'd love to get into racing, but unfortunately other hobbies are taking both my time and money these days. Speaking of the E36 M3, a guy I work with just purchased a 1995 model with 40k miles on it. Needless to say, it is a sweet car. He'd been looking for two years and finally found one that he felt hadn't been ravaged by it's owners.
If you're truly interested in an M3, one of my good friends is selling his 2003 E46 M3 convertible. I know, probably not what you're looking for, but it is truly a badass vehicle. The SMG and paddle shift are a thing you just have to experience. It's been extremely well cared for and aside from the time I drove it, it's never been north of 85mph. Speaking of that... when I drove it we got into a race with a Dodge Stealth (not an RT but he'd modded the hell out of it). The Dodge kept up until about 90mph, and at that point the M3 just began to trounce him. Anyway, we were headed up a pretty steep hill on a straightaway which gently crests into a plateau. My friend, never having been on this particular road before and not knowing about the plateau, thought we were going to do a little hill jumping. Consequently, as I approached the plateau at 130mph he almost shit his pants. Needless to say, that was the first and last time I drove his M3.

Anyway, let me know if you're interested and I can get you some pics.
I used to live in a loft in downtown KC, and my landlord who also lived in the building is a big German car freak. I'm trying to remember what all he had off the top of my head --- A red 1967 M-B 230SL. This was a beautiful car. It was fully restored and commanded stares from all directions. He also had a black 2001 Porsche 911 Carrera - A nice car in it's own right, but I had really been getting tired of the 911 by this point in the game. Take me back to the 70's. Thank god they released the Cayman S, which I love to pieces. By far my favorite car of his though was the 2002 BMW M5. What a machine. It was that pewter color that only BMW seems to know how to pull off. Unfortunately, I never had the chance to drive that one.
Audis - I love them. The RS6 is a monster, but good luck finding one. All I've seen for sale command a very high asking price... and deservedly so. That new RS4 is going to be so sweet. I was shopping for an S4 awhile back and came very close to buying a black 2001 model. It seemed too good to be true between the mileage and asking price. I drove a 2002 Nissan Maxima automatic at the time, so was very familiar with what motor and was expecting a bit more pickup out of the six speed S4. As soon as I took the S4 out, it just didn't feel right. I suspected it was issues with the turbos as my research indicated these cars need to be very well maintained to last very long. Anyway, I rap it out into 3rd gear @ 90mph and sure enough the check engine light comes on! I had to walk away from that one. I've since decided to grow up a bit and thought I should put some money into a house so I won't be poor when I get old. Maybe in another few years I'll look at getting a high performance German vehicle. I have enough money wrapped up in my motorcycle anyway.
I'm jealous you guys are so close to Infineon!

Being in the Midwest, the only track of any note that I have quick access to is the Kansas Speedway. Too bad I'm not really a NASCAR fan. I have been around the track a few times in one of those NASCAR ride-along deals. That really was a hella good time, but the drivers only took the cars up to 160mph. Still, the lateral g pull was quite fun. That and the feeling you're going to slam into the wall coming out of the turns, only to skim by a few inches shy of oblivion!
Re: Import Tuners. I personally never have identified with taking a small 4 banger and dropping $20k into it, where when you add up the total investment you could start out with a much better car to begin with. Regardless, I've seen things like a little blown CRX trounce a C5 Corvette in drags. Granted, the C5 would kill the CRX in anything that required a turn

It's still funny to see the looks on peoples faces when stuff like that happens.
Speaking of Dodge - this guy in my dad's neighborhood just bought a brand new Viper convertible. Man, I have to somehow get behind the wheel of this thing!
Totally OT - Anyone into the band Tool? I've been listening to their new album and, while it rocks, it just hasn't clicked with me yet. Regardless, I'm going to their show here in a couple weeks, so that should be a good time.
Anyway, enough of my rambling. Hope everyone's having a good weekend!
