Gran Tusimo 5 release delayed until 'this holiday season'

I know this will come as a surprise to all of you, though yet another delay in the release of Gran Turismo 5 has been officially announced over at the U.S. Playstation Blog. The blog itself is short and sweet:

We can confirm that Gran Turismo 5 will not be available this November 2nd, but the game’s release will be coming this holiday season.

We sincerely apologize to GT fans for the delay, however, creator Kazunori Yamauchi and the team at Polyphony Digital want to make certain they are creating the perfect racing experience, and we are confident that this ambitious game will exceed expectations when it launches.

We’ll have more information for you in the near future.

Judging by the comments on the blog post, most gamers are none too happy, and I don't blame them. Having been a fan since the original Gran Turismo, I wholeheartedly expected this to happen (again). That said, if in my job I missed deadlines in this manner, I'd have been fired long ago. I understand the desire for perfection, though I believe in part, with the scope of GT5 in particular, this is one of the symptoms of a game trying to be everything to everyone.

Yea saw the news about the delay tonight, thought it had a solid release date but should have known better. I even booked a week off work to co inside with the release of GT5, not happy!

I did the same thing last month but switched it out yesterday.

Also there is hope because there is an interview with KY say the delay was for a shortage of Blu-Ray disc. We may see it around 8-12 days after the orignial release. He hopes to shoot for before Dec.

I found this on GTplanet tho...

I'm praying just a Blu-Ray shortage not software problems.

@Kerr: Its to much messing about trying to change the date as I work in retail and with Christmas only 2 more months away I've got no chance

Will use the week to probably play the new Fallout game if I buy it and get the Christmas present shopping done.

As for the delay. Nothing confirmed as far as I know, only speculation and someone on some forum claiming to have links with Sony HQ blaming the manufacturing of the disks due to recent hacking attempts on the Firmware..... Hopefully Sony/PD will announce something come the end of the month.

	Have fun while you race others. If you don't why are you racing in the first place? Just realized I have a year and a half left in college. I'm at GTPlanet now.

SONY mandated a change as to how new programs were to be built, for security reasons. PD was ready to go, but this policy change was, apparently, forced upon them just three days before production and they apologised because of the position they were put in.

They have to find a new production time-slot, to make over 7 million discs, so when they have that settled, then we will know soon after. They are still suggesting a release before Christmas, so it isn't too bad.
